Recently, LMC's Amy Cooley earned her SHRM-CP certification. The Society for Human Resources Management (SHRM) is the global leader for best practices within Human Resources and Talent Management. They provide certification programs to HR Professionals to ensure a baseline for knowledge and applications. The SHRM-CP certification is accredited by SHRM and The Buros Center for Testing. The certification requires knowledge of a broad spectrum of the field of HR, applicable across all industries – policies, guidelines, legislation, standard practices – related to People, Business Organizations, and the Workplace itself. Additional areas covered include hiring/onboarding, employee relations, retention, offboarding, performance management, and compliance – OSHA, ADA, Harassment/Anti-Discrimination.
The certification is practical, in addition to knowledge based. 50% of the certification exam is composed of “situational judgment” questions – identifying the best strategies and tactics to respond to realistic workplace situations. These questions test judgment and decision-making skills that are aimed at assessing leadership and interpersonal skills, as well as business savvy.
Amy Cooley's path to certification drew on her 20+ years of recruiting/staffing/HR experience and her graduate-level coursework on HR Management, Employment and Labor Law, Human Resource Development, Talent Management, and Workforce Planning, as well as SHRM’s knowledge base.
